Topic: Resolving Australia’s accusation that Japan is involved in illegal whaling activities

Australia has been monitoring Japan’s activities for several years and there has been a frequent clash between anti-whaling protestors such as the sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Therefore Australia brought a complaint against Japan a couple years ago in the International Court of Justice for its whaling practices in the Antarctic. Whaling has been a staple of Japanese culture, and many Japanese whalers feel this practice is a part of their heritage. If this accusation didn’t exist whales would extinct. Every time there is a harvest Japan claims to go on a “Scientific Whaling Program” and a lot of whales get killed, they still do. Greenpeace found illegal whale meat and blubber for sale in open Japanese markets.

Greece tries to help this problem by not buying them meat. At the moment there is a big amount of meat in storage because it hasn’t been bought, but Japan keeps killing whales so this is not to be considered as a solution. My delegation is suffering an economical crisis at the moment but is willing to take action in solutions that don’t require big amount of money. Greece is located far away from Japan and near the ocean; this situation hasn’t affected our country in a direct way but we are concerned about all the whales being killed. My country is completely against Japan killing the innocent whales and will like to take in action the following solutions.

My delegation would suggest two solutions, the first is putting guards on seas to see if anyone is haunting and if they are we should send more force to stop them and punish them right away. Our delegations should be concern enough to put this as a priority when it comes to animals because they might get extinct. My delegation’s second solution is to make whale meat illegal. There is no reason why they should kill whales and sell their meat. We should pay close attention on who is selling whale meat and whoever sells it, weather it’s a company or a single person will be charge with a big fine. This fine will include a punishment.
